Dr Steve Helander

I am vocationally registered specialist dermatologist with over 25 years experience.

Helander Dermatology is my practice alone, so you will always have my personal attention and continuity of care with your problem.   I provide a friendly professional dermatology and dermatological surgical service at both Ponsonby and Botany locations for your convenience. 

I grew up and have lived in Auckland for most of my life.  I am a graduate of Auckland University School of Medicine. I undertook post graduate internal medical training in London, obtaining a MRCP then returned to New Zealand for advanced training in Dermatology in Hamilton and Auckland. This was followed by Fellowship training at the Mayo Clinic in the USA.

I can offer you experienced advice and management for a full range of adult and childhood dermatologic problems.  I have a special interest in the screening, early diagnosis and management of melanoma and other skin cancers. I have diagnosed and treated over 2000 melanomas in the last 25 years.  I also have an interest in medical dermatology managing eczema, psoriasis, acne and other disorders.

Because my focus is on the best diagnosis and management of skin problems, I do not offer cosmetic dermatology or laser services.
